This is just terrible in so many ways:
A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and committing a hate crime after he allegedly threw a metal bolt at participants running in the Special Olympics Torch Run in Valencia, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies from the sheriff’s Santa Clarita station were running with the children in the torch run at about 3:25 p.m. at the intersection of McBean Parkway and Arroyo Park Drive when a man inside a vehicle began yelling at the children to get off the road, using a derogatory term regarding their sexual orientation, sheriff’s officials said in a statement.
The man, identified as David Robert Schwartz, allegedly threw the bolt at the children, which came close to two of them. Schwartz was taken into custody a short time later. Schwartz was being held at the Santa Clarita jail in lieu of a $50,000 bail.
What the goddamn hell, David Robert Schwartz? Are you mad that you’re not ON the team, you fucking retard? (No offense to actual tards.) It’s bad enough that you’re throwing things; it’s worse that you’re throwing BOLTS; it’s even worse that you’re throwing bolts at children; but, JESUS CHRIST, you’re throwing bolts at Special Olympians!?!
$5 says David Robert Schwartz is a Mets fan.

Would someone please mind explaining why this is a “hate crime”?
First, how often does it happen that people are specifically targeted because they have a disability?
Second, notice how the guy in question was alleged to have started screaming at them and “using a derogatory term for their sexual orientation.” That’s right – their sexual orientation – not the fact that they are disabled.
Maybe this guy had intended to attack a gay pride parade – which would indeed have been a hate crime – but the guy got confused (as Josh said, what a retard..) and attacked a Special Olympics thing by mistake?
But that still doesn’t make this incident a hate crime….
More special treatment for the “special” Olympics….
(No offense to actual tards.)

Best line ever.
Whatever happened to “a”? A fun commenter, MIA. Or at least MIA from SCFOM.
