Politics is a dirty sport; we can all agree on that. Quick, let’s enumerate some things! In the past week or so, we’ve had:
1) Girlfriend-face-slasher Sen. Hiram Monserrate (D-ice and slice) throwing the New York State Senate into disarray.
2) (Still!) Gov. Sarah Palin (R-etarded) trying to distract America from real issues via a fake fight with David Letterman.
3) Sen. John Ensign (R-andy) admits to an extramarital affair with an of-age still-alive human woman! (And you call yourself a Republican.)
Despite the wide array of offenses, there’s one thing all these people have in common — they’re all better than Monica Conyers (D-isaster). It takes a lot to stand out as a corrupt and incompetent public servant in Detroit, but for years now — YEARS — that’s precisely what Monica Conyers has done. She threatened to shoot Mayoral aides; defended her own racist remarks by saying “black people cannot be racist“; called the City Council president (a large bald man) “Shrek”; and then, in perhaps the greatest YouTube clip of all time, got into a fight with school children over the remark:
Amazingly, she’s still in office — for now. You see, her latest scandal is apparently worse than threatening to shoot people…
Federal prosecutors have offered Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers a plea deal as part of their wide-ranging investigation of City Hall corruption, but she has not accepted it, the Free Press learned today.
The development comes a day after the U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed that two key figures in a sludge-disposal deal admitted paying Conyers thousands of dollars in bribes to secure her support for a $1.2-billion city contract with Synagro Technologies. Conyers, who initially opposed the 2007 deal, switched her position as the council voted 5-4 to let Synagro dispose of wastewater sludge.
Well that sure sounds like bad news for Ms. Conyers, doesn’t it? Wonder if she has an appropriately-crazy response. Think she’s up to it?
I just want to say that first and foremost publicly that I am a child of God. And that all these things that are going on right now that I believe in my heart that God will deliver me from them. And so I say to all of the people out there if you’re not praying for me, then you’re just adding to the problem.
Got that, everyone? It’s already bad enough that you Facebook RSVPd ‘yes’ for yesterday’s Letterman protest, and then totally didn’t show up, but now you’re not even praying for sweet Monica Conyers! Where is your decency, America?
I didn’t know Mrs. John Conyers had parlayed her marriage to John Conyers into a seat on the Detroit City Council.
As to the charges against her this is news to me. I am surprised the Right-Wing press has not jump all over this story considering their contempt for her husband John Conyers(D) MI.
Detroit of late has already had its share of political scandals, all i can say is People should stop doing their crimes and then running behind the clock of being a “Child of God” God does not like ugliness and theivery nomatter who you are or are married too.
