Hey, kids! Remember the good old days when Facebook was for people who went to college? We’re not saying that requirement kept the dumbs off the site, but we bet it would’ve prevented this fantastic situation:
On Sunday, a blogger at The Political Carnival noticed a user-generated poll on Facebook that asked, “Should Obama be killed?” The blogger wrote about the poll, then called the Secret Service to alert them to it.
A day later, Facebook has taken down the poll, and the Secret Service is looking into the matter, the Associated Press reports:
The U.S. Secret Service is investigating an online survey that asked whether people thought President Barack Obama should be assassinated, officials said Monday. The choices were: No, Maybe, Yes, and Yes if he cuts my health care.
First of all, WTF!? Facebook isn’t for that kind of nonsense. Facebook is for stalking people, posting lewd photos and letting everyone know that your favorite quotes are better than their favorite quotes: “Excuse me, is your refrigerator running? Because if it is, it probably runs like you – very homosexually.”
Secondly, let’s look at those options: No — OK, good choice; Yes — Stupid, but understandable choice (in terms of it being a yes-or-no question…chill out); Yes if he cuts my health care — um, what?
There seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding of health care going on if that’s the option you chose. Why? Because we’re pretty sure Obama’s actually trying to extend health care, not cut it. Seriously, read a newspaper, dip shits.
Oh, and for what it’s worth (read: nothing), here are the results of the poll:
A Facebook official said the question was created not by the company but by an independent person using an add-on application that has been suspended from the site.
Because the application was disabled, the responses to the nonscientific polls are not available.
SIKE!
