It’s not been a good week to be Joe Lieberman (not that the situation isn’t entirely of his own making). He’s been vilified (rightfully), called “stupid” (probably rightfully) and been forced to acknowledge that he’s kind of a liar and definitely an opportunist. Then when Lieberman went to the Senate floor on Thursday, mean old Al Franken wouldn’t even let him speak for an extra “moment” — possibly because Lieberman’s been such a colossal prick. Hey, people can be mean in real life!
So imagine what they did to Joe Lieberman on the Internet! On his own Facebook page, even!
Somewhat amazingly, Joe Lieberman has a Facebook page. Even more amazingly, he has (as of right now) 6,253 fans, which is sort of inexplicable.
Of course, not everyone visiting Lieberman’s page is a fan — at least they’re not acting like fans, anyway.
Excellent point, James Kiernan, and excellent observation Joe M Stevens. Of course, on your second point — which we’re counting as your “Christmas Wish” — you should be aware that Sen. Lieberman actually has government health care, and even if he had testicular cancer, he’d probably be fine.
It is no accident that one Senator can be an obstructionist. He, and the filibuster for that matter, remind us that the governmental sovereignty allowed the state governments is what is really represented in the US Senate (unlike in the US House of Reps). As frustrating as it is, there is a trade off in wiping this out in favor of remaking the US Senate on the basis of the principles of the US House…trade offs given the scale of the US. and what the US is. I’m certainly not in favor of them repealing the filibuster. I also don’t think Lieberman should be such a douchebag — it’s not like he’s standing up for principle here. Three months ago he was for a Medicare buy-in; now he’s against it. He says this is about fiscal restraint, but he never had any concerns about the costs of wars.
He’s full of shit.
