The problem with Libertarians is that they’re children who don’t understand that they have to play with the big kids. That’s reductive, sure. But reducing everything to the level of public-private-business-non-business…it’s just so childish.
And that theory of letting state governments run everything with limited government interference is a great theory. Bobby Jindal loved that theory, too. Then BP decided to dump a bunch of oil in the water off Louisiana and now he can’t wait to get the big money in there.
But back to Dr. Paul. This morning on “Good Morning America” he said that the media talking points are that he’s for repealing the Civil Rights Act of 1964. False. The question was not if he wanted to repeal it, but why he criticized it. Ugh, talking points. And also this, from — natch — Talking Points Memo:
On Good Morning America today, Paul also steered the conversation toward something more recent, President Obama’s criticism of BP following the oil spill. Paul said: “This sort of, you know ‘I’ll put my boot heel on the throat of BP,’ I think that sounds really un-American in his criticism of business.”
What’s un-American? Wanting to make BP pay, financially and regulations-wise, for the spill? Or skirting the few regulations there are to try to earn as much money as possible and just perhaps putting the ecosystem and the company’s employees at risk?
Ugh. Un-American. OK, Rand Paul. Big problem for this guy: He has a lot of his father’s crackpot ideas without the charisma. One thing that’s completely American about Rand Paul? His whining. Totally, totally American.

I think his point was more to the fact that the current administration looks at any kind of crisis as an opportunity, instead of something to solve now and figure out logical prevention for the future.
Yeah, I saw the interview. That may have been Paul’s point but amid all the whining, griping and general head-in-the-clouds-ness that is the Libertarian movement he comes across as a guy who doesn’t give a shit about anyone but himself.
That’s not Libertarian, that’s Politician.
Fair point.
He’s an idiot.
Poor little Rand and his daddy don’t like the fact people died at Deepwater Horizon and at the WV mine run by Massey. Now his little rich friends have to take responsibility for and make accountability that people died due to negligence. Those suits probably never did a goddamn thing that they claimed responsibility for, and the mine operator just didn’t give a damn. And now those getting rich from death will probably lose a little money, but what about the poor shrimpers and fishermen who are literally getting shit on?
And yes, I’m pissed at Obama for taking oil money and giving exeptions, but Jesus Fucking Christ, who the fuck runs a huge operation like this without a damn emergency plan? You have to be pretty goddamn fucking stupid, but hell, anything in this country, whether done by a domestic or foreign company that can cause a mess fucking will. It’s the American way- I got mine and fuck you!
Last night I saw a report from Abu Dhabi where they have a team of disaster experts on hand in 10 minutes notice if there’s a spill and they have saved their waterway and water supply already from a major spill. And in the desert water is damn important! Now guess who will be coming here to clean up? But we have nothing like that with BP or anyone else that is on hand. Why? Because Big Oil is busy buying political dick to suck- Obama included and being able to say fuck the environment and fuck you little Joe Public!
