Here at SCFOM, we like our sports. What we don’t like, though, is the terrible habit athletes have of thanking God for every single thing they do. David Ortiz hits a home run; thanks God. Kurt Warner wins the Super Bowl; thanks God. Floyd Mayweather punches another man in the head for 10 rounds; thanks God.

It’s all so stupid, the idea that God wants Floyd Mayweather to win more than his poor opponent or that he wants David Ortiz to get hits against the Yankees (possible). But why doesn’t the proverbial shoe ever go on the other foot? Why doesn’t anyone ever call out God when something terrible happens?

Enter Buffalo Bills wide receiver Steve Johnson:

Yep, he straight cold dropped a pass that would’ve given the lowly Bills a win over the vaunted Steelers. So what’s the natural response after a little time for reflection?

If you don’t love this, you just don’t love sports. Finally, someone to look up to.

California gubernatorial hopeful Meg Whitman should have considered her words carefully before suggesting that she moved to the state 30 years ago because anything was possible…when Jerry Brown was governor. Being the political pros they are, the Brown campaign jumped all over that statement.

Jan Brewer makes even white people cringe

We already knew that, thanks to her state’s insane immigration law, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer made Mexicans and anybody with brown skin cringe. What we didn’t know is that she’s capable of making people of all stripes feel uncomfortable — from miles away, even!

For most political candidates, a lot of prep time goes into getting ready for debates. Take a look at this video from last night’s gubernatorial debate in Arizona, and let us know if you think Brewer is like most candidates. Ouch.

At first we weren’t so cool with Alvin Greene as a senate candidate. He was unemployed, lived with his parents, didn’t seem too bright, and was oh so awkward. He also won a primary race without campaigning, and had zero dollars in the bank to run against Jim DeMint.

After a month of terrible interviews, proclamations of grandeur, and still no campaigning, we learned yesterday how amazing Greene’s military service was. Air Force records obtained by the AP included “a performance review which found that Greene was ‘unable to express thoughts clearly’ and ‘not able to adapt to any changes to daily routine.’”

Ouch! So what was Alvin Greene’s big comeback? How do you turn that kind of frown upside down?

It is safe to say, today we are all Alvin Greene.

When Congressmen attack

Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-NC) is a Blue Dog, and, apparently, a verifiable crazy person. This video is making the rounds, and it shows Etheridge just strolling down the street before straight cold grabbin’ and jabbin’ some young punk. Granted the youngster was pointing a camera in his face, and, refused to say where he was from or why he was taping — he just kept saying over and over that he’s a student and “just [there] for a project” — but that’s certainly no reason to coldcock a punk.

Strangely, though, their “project” ended up being posted by Larry O’Connor, who, according to his YouTube bio is a “regular contributor to Big Hollywood, Big Government & Big Journalism — Andrew Breitbart’s sites. So, hey, maybe Etheridge was right to wonder why two whippersnappers were pointing cameras in his face and asking if he supports the “Obama agenda.”

Still, slapping people around is wrong, especially if they’re douchebags with flip cams, and their goal is to get you to do or say something stupid so they can post it to a goddamn right-wing website. Christ Almighty, Bob Etheridge, WTF is wrong with you?
